Baby Shower Let-Down...

I was supposed to throw my sister's baby shower. We had already discussed it. I asked her to get me a list of addresses. I had a place picked out. I had an approximate date -- I was waiting to see if it would work for everyone.

Today, we get a text from the paternal grandmother to be (who my sister lives with) and find out that she's already planned it. She has a place and a date picked out. She wants us to decorate.

I'm very heartbroken that I wasn't told about this earlier. I've been planning it for months!

Is it wrong for me to be sad about this?

I promise I'll post something happy soon...

I don't think you're wrong to be upset or let down by this. I was excited that my cousin was finally pregnant with what appears to be at least at this point a healthy baby (she had one miscarriage, and lost her infant son at 16 minutes of age last October), and wanted to throw her shower this time around (she's only about 18 weeks pregnant at this point). Then when I mentioned it to my mom, she said that my aunt's best friend is throwing a huge one, and that I could either talk to my aunt about throwing a seperate one, or go to the other one and just enjoy myself. Just enjoying myself sounds like fun too. Can you find a way to spin this into a good thing for you? Oh, and if you're interested my cousin's story, she has a blog too. http://sgirl79.blogspot.com

Yeah, maybe you could throw a separate one. Let the grandmother's one be for family, & you throw a smaller one, just for her girlfriends?

Steph, I'm so sorry you had this experience.
Another thing you could do, if throwing a separate, smaller shower doesn't work out, is to have a "mini-shower" for just you and your sister. Or, you could also do what my mom did for our cousin, who lives in Colorado, far away: She did a postal shower--sent boxes to everyone with games and favors, and cards to send back to the bride. If you have friends or family that are too far away to come for a shower, you could have a shower-by-mail! I know it's not the same, but it really is like getting a hug in a box.
Hugs, babe.
